Learning to listen with intent is emotional intelligence in action. When we can't hear the people close to us because we're offended, this prevents us from forming deep bonds with the very people we say we want to form deep bonds with. When we take time to practice intentional listening and taking the time to reflect on what we've heard, it gives us an opportunity to listen to perspectives different than our own (which builds empathy, another building block of emotional intelligence), which is a MUCH needed skill required to build emotional safety in your intimate relationships.
